The island splits into four propositions. Victoria gives you heritage architecture, formal gardens and an inner harbour, and it is the easiest to run because everything is close and there are beds. The Cowichan Valley, an hour north, is farmland and wineries and reads far warmer than the coast. Tofino and Ucluelet are the dramatic version: open Pacific, storm cloud, and beaches that go on for kilometres. The Gulf Islands are the private version, at the cost of a second ferry and a guest list capped by what the island can sleep.
Most couples arrive attached to Tofino and, once they have counted the drive against their guest list, end up somewhere else on the island. That is a good outcome rather than a compromise, and it is worth having the conversation early rather than after a deposit.
This is the one stretch of coast I quote rather than publish. A ferry crossing and three more hours of mountain highway are a genuinely different trip from a Kitsilano Saturday, and one averaged figure would be wrong for Victoria and wrong for Tofino in opposite directions. Send the venue and the date and you get a real number before you commit to anything.
