Why Reels and Real Prints Are in Every Collection

Vertical social reels in the first week, and photographs handed to your guests before they go home. Neither is an add-on, and here is why.

Every collection includes two things most photographers sell separately: vertical social reels cut from the day, and real photographic prints handed to your guests before they leave the wedding. On top of those, Signature and Legacy carry a colour-graded feature film: one minute and three, and Photo + Film returns a three to five minute piece shot by a dedicated filmmaker.

Couples ask why they are included rather than priced, and the answer is not generosity. It is that both are cheap for me and expensive for you to buy anywhere else, which is the only sound basis for including anything.

Why the film can be included at all

Couple close together in warm low light at a reception
A short film shot alongside the photographs costs a day I am already spending.

Because I shoot it alongside the photographs rather than bringing a second person to shoot it. The camera bodies I use for stills record video. The day I am already being paid for is the day the footage comes from. What it costs me is editing time, which is real but finite, and nothing else.

Full film is a completely different product, priced from what it actually costs: C$5,900 buys Photo + Film, which is twelve hours of photography alongside a dedicated filmmaker for twelve, and a filmmaker for eight hours can be added to any other collection for C$2,900. That buys ceremony audio, speech capture, multiple angles and a much longer edit. If you want a proper wedding film, book that.

What the included film is: a short, deliberate, colour-graded piece cut from the day. Movement, light, the shape of the thing. What it is not: a substitute for a dedicated filmmaker, which is what Photo + Film buys, and I will say so plainly rather than let you discover it.

Why a one-minute film beats a fifteen-minute one

Because a minute gets watched. The honest fact about long wedding films is that most couples watch theirs twice, and almost nobody else watches it once. A short film gets sent to people, gets replayed, and survives the way a photograph survives.

It also gets made properly. A minute of footage that has been genuinely edited is worth more than fifteen minutes of assembled clips, and the ratio of care to runtime is where most wedding video goes wrong.

Legacy gets three minutes because there is more day to cover, not because longer is better.

The prints are the part people actually react to

Guests laughing together at a candlelit reception table
People leave holding a photograph from the wedding they are still at.

Film prints, handed to your guests on the night. Not a link, not a gallery, not a QR code on a table. A physical photograph from your wedding, given to people while they are still at it.

This is the single most commented-on thing I do, and the reason is straightforward. Everyone at a wedding has taken a hundred photographs on a phone and will look at none of them. A print is an object. It goes on a fridge, in a wallet, on a desk. It is still there in five years.

It also solves a real problem: the gap. Your gallery is weeks away by definition, because editing six hundred photographs properly takes weeks. The prints and the film close that gap with something better than a preview.

What this replaces

Vertical social reels are in every collection. They used to be a C$1,250 add-on on this site and charging for them stopped being defensible.

Doing phone-first content properly means somebody whose job that is: shooting vertical, cutting on the day, delivering overnight. That used to be a C$1,200 add-on on this site and it is not any more, because the vertical social reels are now in every collection. If you want more volume than one reel, hand a friend a phone. I am not going to invoice you for it.

If posting the next morning matters to you, the reels are already in your collection. If what you want is something that lasts, so are the prints, and the feature film comes with Signature and Legacy.

What comes back, and when

Prints on the night, a preview inside 48 hours, then the film, then the gallery.

In order. Prints on the night. Then the social reels, in the first week. Then a preview of stills, next day on Signature and Photo + Film, and within 24 hours on Legacy. Then the film. Then the full gallery: within three weeks on every collection, with the date written into the contract rather than promised in an email.

Signature adds two rolls of real film, processed and scanned. Legacy and Photo + Film add four. Those come back when the lab is finished with them, which is typically four to six weeks and genuinely outside my control.

The reels and the prints are in every collection at every price, and the feature film comes with Signature and Legacy. The whole ladder is published. If you want to see what it looks like on a real day, nine complete weddings are here, first frame to last.
